Mold Information
Mold is everywhere. There is no practical way to prevent mold from entering your home, but you can take steps to ensure that it does not grow there. Dangerous molds can make your family sick, and the more you know about preventing mold growth, the better off you will be.
Mold (fungi) is present everywhere-indoors and outdoors. There are more than 100,000 species of mold. Mold frequently grows in hidden places behind wall linings, in floors or behind installations and is often not visible from the outside. When moisture builds up from leaky pipes or roofs, high humidity or flooring; conditions are ideal for mold growth. Molds are easily disturbed and their spores can become airborne, getting into noses, mouths and lungs. Molds can trigger asthma and allergies in sensitive individuals. A 1999 Mayo Clinic Study attributed nearly all the chronic sinus infections afflicting 37 million Americans to molds. According to a recent U.S. General Accounting Office (GAO) report, 20 percent of schools have indoor air quality problems, with many of the schools found in poorer school districts.
